NEW DELHI, August 2026 — A senior advocate can win a landmark judgment and remain unknown to the solicitors who decide which counsel gets briefed. A surgeon of thirty years can watch patients choose a younger name they found online first. Neither can respond the way an ordinary business would.
Professional conduct rules in India restrict solicitation and advertising by advocates and doctors, under the Bar Council of India and the National Medical Commission. The rules exist for sound reasons. Their effect is a category of people who hold the country's deepest expertise and the narrowest room to make it known.
Gravitas XIX, launched this month in New Delhi by Amit Sinha, is built entirely for them.
Positioning first, publicity second
Sinha describes the work as positioning architecture rather than public relations.
"PR asks who will cover you. Positioning asks what you should be known for, and to whom, long before a single word is published. Get that wrong and coverage only makes it worse, faster."
"Most agencies would sell these professionals coverage, and that is exactly the wrong product," says Sinha, the firm's founder and principal advisor. "Bought placement is a compliance risk for a regulated professional, and it does not work anyway. The people who refer a senior advocate or a specialist consultant can tell the difference between earned standing and purchased noise. So can the regulator."
The firm works only in earned and authored territory. Bylined commentary under the professional's own name. Case analysis in specialist journals. Speaking. Peer-facing writing. Search presence built on published work rather than syndication.
The distinction matters. A designated Senior Advocate cannot be engaged directly by a client and must be briefed by instructing counsel, so the audience for visibility is not the public at all. It is the small community of solicitors, boutiques and in-house teams who decide whom to brief.
"Everyone building a reputation for lawyers is pointing the camera at the wrong crowd," says Sinha. "You are not trying to be famous. You are trying to be the obvious name in the room when four other partners are choosing."
Why now
Search itself has changed. Clients and referrers increasingly begin with an AI assistant rather than a directory, and those systems synthesise from published, attributable material. A professional with twenty-five years of practice and no authored public record is, to that system, close to invisible.
"A regulated professional cannot buy their way into that layer," he says. "They can only be cited into it. That is a slower build and a far more durable one."
Built by an operator, not an agency
Gravitas XIX is deliberately small, and screens for conflict before taking a mandate.
Sinha's background is commercial rather than editorial. Over twenty-two years he ran global brand mandates at Magnon/TBWA, including HP Computers across ten countries and Valvoline across Asia, and led the Amazon relationship at IPG Mediabrands GCC India. At Unyscape he directed digital PR for Mamaearth and American labels entering India, building fifteen global accounts from scratch.
That work was done where this work is done: with publishers, podcasters and newsrooms, placing the right people in front of the right audiences and building standing over time rather than in bursts.
"I have spent two decades watching better people lose to more visible people," he says. "In business that is expensive. In law and medicine it is worse, because the person losing is often the one the client actually needed."
A second practice, same discipline
The same method applies to founders raising capital or building a profile in a crowded category. The restriction there is reputational rather than regulatory. Investors and enterprise buyers discount promotional noise automatically, and a founder who looks like he is marketing himself mid-raise loses ground rather than gains it.
"The founder problem and the advocate problem look different and behave identically," says Sinha. "In both cases the audience is small, sophisticated and allergic to being sold to. You cannot shout your way into that room. You can only be credible in it."
What the firm is building
Gravitas XIX is developing the Gravitas Authority Index, a framework for measuring standing across search, published work, peer citation and referral recall. A long-form video and podcast capability follows later this year.
The firm's early mandates are in legal, healthcare and founder-led business.
About Gravitas XIX Gravitas XIX is a New Delhi advisory that builds authority for senior professionals in regulated fields, including advocates, doctors and specialist practitioners, and for founders raising capital or building a personal profile. It works exclusively in earned and authored media, with a compliance-first approach designed around the restrictions its clients operate under.
